New Stuff

Tue Jul 28, 2009, 9:28 PM
I spent the last four days doing flats for the Zuda comic that :iconkmcgeijyutsuka: drew. It was mostly fun...though I got a little OCD towards the end. She may modify the colors I picked, but I'm hoping I did a good enough job that she'll keep a lot of it. She's gonna add the shading and highlights. (I was tempted to try, but I've got other projects waiting.)

I've had a sort of ongoing disagreement with another independent artist friend over what's technical work and what's creative. Particularly when it come to coloring/screentoning. Now if you're told exactly what colors to use and doing a color by numbers type approach then yes I can agree that's technical work.

But I think once you start making decisions and judgements calls you should be considered an artist. For instance if you're told to make a superhero orange, but you get to pick which orange...then you've made a creative contribution. You may not be the main creative force, but you are a contributing creative force.

My philosophy here extends to design work too. Making a table of contents maybe technical work, but if you decide which font to use, then that's creative.

I've been bogged down with legal/business stuff lately, so it's nice to stretch my creative muscles again. I managed to get my entries for the paper heart contest done on time, and that was cool. :iconorangeandbluecream: , :iconbanana-peel:, and my brother braved nasty mosquitoes to help (or watch) me set up the toilet paper rolls.

I've started working on a dragon picture. Not sure when I'll have it done though. It's just a rough sketch now, but I want to try to make it really finished.

I'm more a writer than an artist. Mainly on here to see my friend's updates.

I will do commissions if anyone's interested. I can do portraits or sketchs of original characters that don't violate anyone's copyright. Material must be PG.

$30 for a 9"x11" sketch in ink or pencil. (See Life Sketches Gallery for examples).

$50 for color; color pencil, crayon, or photoshop, your choice.

Larger drawings or paintings, must be negotiated individually.

I can do portraits off photographs or live models (Nashville area).

Shipping is extra unless I can hand it to you in person or send you a high quality scan (No scans on items larger than 9"x11").

I accept cash and check in person, paypal online, or I can set your image up on a Cafepress print.
